Kamala Harris Makes Historic Run for Presidency
Harris Raises $50 Million in First 24 Hours
First Woman, Black Person, and South Asian to Serve as Vice President
Vice President Kamala Harris has announced her bid for the presidency in 2024, making history as the first woman, Black person, and South Asian to run for the highest office in the United States.
Harris, 57, raised more than $50 million in less than 24 hours after entering the race, her campaign said. Her announcement has been met with enthusiasm from Democrats, who see her as a strong candidate to lead the party.
Harris has already made history as the first woman, the first Black person, and the first person of South Asian descent to serve as vice president of the United States.
She took on the duties of president for a short period on Friday, when President Joe Biden underwent a routine colonoscopy. Harris became the first woman to hold the office of president, even though it was only for a short time.
