Introducing Pakistan: A Rich History and Diverse Culture
Emergence of a Nation
The Islamic Republic of Pakistan, officially known as Pakistan, is a vibrant country located in South Asia. It came into existence on August 14, 1947, following the partition of British India. The creation of Pakistan was a result of the demand for a separate Muslim state by the All-India Muslim League, led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Early History and Independence
Before independence, the region now known as Pakistan was part of the Indian subcontinent. It was ruled by various empires and dynasties throughout history, including the Mughals, the British, and the Sikh Empire. The Pakistan Movement, which aimed to establish a separate Muslim homeland, gained momentum during the early 20th century.
Government and Political Structure
Pakistan is a semi-secular Islamic federal parliamentary republic, with Islam as the state religion. The President is the head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, while the Prime Minister is the head of government.
Pakistan has a multi-party parliamentary system, with elections held regularly to choose representatives for the National Assembly (lower house) and Senate (upper house). The judiciary is independent, with a Supreme Court as the highest court in the land.
